The QL also announced the signing of Go Sport as its main (platinum) sponsor for the current season.
“With the support of Go Sport, the QL plans to expand the types of games on offer. We’ll think of including new leagues for women and children next year. We want to open up sports and fitness activities for each member of the society,” said QL founder Ghanim Al Mohannadi.
“Our vision fits in well with that of Qatar and the Qatar Olympic Committee. Hopefully, the general public will be inspired by the Arab Games to get more involved in sports activities,” he added.
Go Sport General Manager Andrew Fairall said, “We’re pleased to support the QL and encourage sports at the grass-roots level in the country. The QL is offering something new and unique, and we fully endorse its goal to encourage Qatar’s residents to become more active.”
The leagues, launched in June, is the country’s first organised recreational sports network. It runs indoor and outdoor football leagues, tape-ball cricket, volleyball and basketball.
“We’ve three league seasons every year, so there’re plenty of chances for people to sign up and play either as an individual or form a team with friends or colleagues,” said Al Mohannadi.
The QL’s first season is currently under way and the new one will start in March. More details can be had from www.qsportsleagues.com.
