AL WAKRAH endured a largely unimpressive season last time around, finishing 11th, but coach Jose Mauricio Larriera said the players were motivated to do well this time.
Wakrah will open their campaign against El Jaish on September 18.
“We’re happy with our pre-season preparations. We played a few friendlies and the general mood is hugely positive. We’re ready for the new season,” said the Uruguayan, who replaced Serb Goran Tufegdzic in June, 2015.
Wakrah ended their pre-season camp in Istanbul with a 2-1 win against local side Sakarya in a friendly last week, thanks to goals from Maher Yusuf in the 24th minute and Uruguayan Pablo Olivera (34th).
Iraq’s Ali Rehema, Moroccan Mouchine Moutouali as well as Pablo are their three overseas players and the club is expected to name a fourth player soon.
