Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF) President Saleh Amer Al Hemaidi felt a dearth of coaches at the grass-roots level was one of the main issues affecting the sport’s growth in the country.
“Fencing is a relatively new sport in our country and we don’t have many experienced coaches. Former fencers are employed full-time elsewhere, but we’re trying to convince them to help us out,” said Al Hemaidi.
“Another problem is that most fencers discontinue after graduation. We also have to persuade them to continue their studies in the country. It’s a serious problem not only for us, but with other sports too. We’re trying hard to develop the sport and keep going,” he said.
