AHMED Mohammed Abdulrab Al Shaabi was re-elected unanimously as President of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) for another four-year term.
With no other candidate in the fray, the election held during the QHA General Assembly was a mere formality.
Other office-bearers Mohammed Jaber Al Mulla (General Secretary) Khalifa Taiseer Al Jassim, Hamad Misfer Al Nuaimi and Adel Hilal Al Anzi (Board members) — also won the mandate for another four-year term.
International Handball Federation Vice-President Badr Al Theyab and Qatar Olympic Committee’s Sport Affairs Director Khalil Al Jabir oversaw the proceedings at the QHA Hall in Duhail.
Qatar made huge strides during Al Shaabi’s tenure. They reached the final of the Men’s World Championship in Doha last year. They also made it to the Olympic Games quarterfinal on their debut at Rio last August.
Qatar also emerged as the continental and Asian Games champions.
It was Al Shaabi who took the initiative to rope in Barcelona legend Valero Rivera as the national coach in 2013. The Spaniard has been given a contract till the Tokyo Games in 2020.
“I hope to continue the good work. At the QHA, we take immense pride in ensuring the progress of our players, spotting talent and nurturing it in the right direction. We take maximum effort to give our youngsters good conditions to train and play,” said Al Shaabi.
