Twists and turns of racing career

FROM being a promising footballer in his home town of Coventry to becoming the first British MotoGP race winner for 35 years since Barry Sheene, Cal Crutchlow has seen it all.

The LCR Honda rider, who won two races in 2016, was in Qatar last week for the MotoGP’s season opener, where he crashed twice. The 31-year-old opens up about the twists and turns of his career.

How excited are you with start of the season?

It was nice to have a winter off for some family time and now it’s great to be back. The month of March gets your brain in racing mode.

What went wrong in the race?

Since it was a night race and there were concerns about the dew, I changed the front tyre on the grid. It was a wrong decision and I crashed twice. But hey, this is racing. I started last season similarly.

How do you unwind normally?

I like listening to Kings of Leon band. I did a mountain bike climb for the first time in three years recently.

Favourite holiday destination?

I spend my holidays in California.
