THE top five teams in Qatar League — Police, El Jaish, Al Rayyan, Al Arabi and Shamal — have been given direct entries into the main draw of Emir’s Cup, to be held from April 11 to 22.
They will be joined by three qualifiers from among the remaining six clubs in the league — Al Ahli, Al Khor, Al Gharafa, Al Sadd, Al Wakrah and Qatar Sports Club.
The qualifying tournament, from March 20 to 22, will see Wakrah taking on Qatar SC while Ahli will have a date with Khor and Sadd will lock horns with Gharafa.
In the main draw, Police, who won their maiden league title with a game to spare, will take on the winners of the match between Sadd and Gharafa.
League runners-up Jaish will start their campaign against the Wakrah vs Qatar SC encounter winner while Rayyan face the qualifying team from Ahli vs Khor clash.
Qatar Volleyball Association Technical Director Hussein Imam Ali conducted the draw ceremony last week.
As a prelude to the Emir’s Cup, Qatar Cup, featuring the top-four finishers in the league, will be held from April 2 to 8.
