SOME of the world’s best riders will vie for honours at the 2017 CHI Al Shaqab, to be held at the Al Shaqab Arena from Thursday to Saturday.
It is the first-of-its-kind championship being sanctioned by the international equestrian federation in the Middle East and Asia, and only one of the four CHI (Concours Hippique International or international equestrian competition) events being held in the world.
The competition will feature three disciplines — show jumping, dressage and para dressage (for physically-impaired persons).
A ceremony to celebrate Al Shaqab’s 25th anniversary will be held at 6pm on Friday.
The organisers have made arrangements to create a festive mood around the event. There will be separate areas for entertainment and pony riding. A range of traditional cultural activities are also planned for children and adults alike.
There will also be henna painters, falcon handlers and traditional food courts for foreign visitors to enjoy Qatar’s hospitality.
