Doha: Al Rayyan coach Michael Laudrup was all praise for his inspirational captain Rodrigo Tabata as they look to quash the challenge of Al Gharafa in the QNB Stars League.
“I would like to highlight (Rodrigo) Tabata’s role in our outstanding run. He’s the first to reach the training site and the last to leave. He isn’t young anymore, yet he’s an example for youngsters,” said Laudrup about the playmaker par excellence.
Tabata has been the inspiration for Rayyan for last few seasons and it’s no different this time as he already has six goals to his credit — the same number as their top goal poachers Abderrazak Hamdallah and Sebastian Soria.
Gharafa have been a bit disappointing as far as their results are concerned but Laudrup said they could be a potential threat when the teams meet at the spectacular setting of Khalifa International Stadium.
Besides, Rayyan have a point to prove as well after losing to Gharafa twice last season.
“Gharafa are a team with a lot of good players. They may not have collected many points, but they have the potential to do much more. We’re not underestimating them. They also have some players who were with us last season.
They beat us in both phases last season and we have a point to prove. This time, we want to change the scenario,” said Laudrup.
Rayyan will also have a chance of topping the table if Friday’s match between Al Sadd and Al Duhail ends in a draw, but Laudrup preferred to focus on Rayyan’s match.
“We’re focused only our game against Al Gharafa and it’s important that we win this match. “I’m sure the Khalifa International Stadium will provide a good setting for the game. It’s a big venue where we played last season’s Emir’s Cup final. A lot of fans may be coming for this match as well,” said Laudrup.
