THE Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) will host the inaugural Nishan Championship from June 13 to 20 during the holy month of Ramadan.
Al Dawri and Al Kass channel is the media partner of eight-day event, sponsored by Ooredoo. Online registration for the competition began on the first day of Ramadan.
Announcing the details of Nishan, which means target in Arabic, at a Press conference in Losail Shooting Range, QSAA President Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari said it would be a one-of-its-kind event and that the overall champion in both Professional and Amaetur categories each would win a car.
“We’ve come up with an innovative concept for the Nishan Championship on the occasion of Ramadan,” said Al Kuwari.
“The event is open to all and we’ve divided the participants into two categories — Professional and Amateur. In each class, there’ll be events covering shotgun, pistol, rifle and archery. There’s no separate category for women and they’ll have to compete with men.
“Participants must contest in all six events and accumulate points. The one who has the maximum points will be declared winner and will take home the car as the grand prize,” he added.
QSAA General Secretary Majid Al Naimi and Al Dawri and Al Kass Operations Manager Turki Yousef Al Subaei also addressed the Press conference.
“The event aims to combine competition and fun. We hope it’ll be exciting,” said Al Naimi.
Meanwhile, the QSAA felicitated all shooters who won medals at the recent Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. dsp
