QATAR Stars League club Al Gharafa have handed the coaching reins to Habib Sadegh after Pedro Caixinha left them last week to take charge of Scottish club Rangers.
The Tunisian is no stranger to Gharafa, having managed them on four previous occasions.
Gharafa Football Head Mahmoud Al Ghazal, who wished all success to Caixinha, said Sadegh was the right man to lead the team at the moment.
“He’s a member of the Gharafa family. He knows the club in and out, and all our young and old players. We’re sure he’ll do a good job,” said Al Ghazal.
Portuguese Caixinha, who had joined Gharafa in December, 2015, helped them stay in the top flight last season. He rebuilt the team this time and helped them to a series of impressive performances in the league. However, a shock 2-3 defeat against Al Sailiya in the 23rd round virtually ended their top-four hopes.
The club management last week allowed the former goalkeeper to negotiate with Rangers and allowed the 46-year-old to leave.
Caixinha had joined Gharafa after a successful spell with Mexican club Santos Laguna. He previously managed native sides Uniao de Leiria and Nacional after being part of the coaching staff at Sporting Lisbon, Panathinaikos as well as Rapid Bucharest and Saudi Arabian national team.
