Doha: Rui Faria's resignation as Al Duhail head coach.will be a huge setback for the club as they look forward to regain the Qatar Stars League (QSL) title which they last won in 2017-18 season.
Duhail, who hired Faria on January 1, 2019, will take on Al Arabi in their QSL match on Friday. Both the team had had played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The team, which currently lead the league with nine wins and three draws, has shown a lot of promise in the ongoing season with the recent signing of former Croatian star Mario Mandzukic adding the glamour quoitent.
However, the crushing 4-0 defeat against Al Sadd in the Qatar Cup last week must have been difficult to digest for the club and fans who had hoped Duhail to defend the crown.
Ruia's exit will also put an extra pressure on Duhail in the 2020 AFC Champions League.
Duhail are in Group C with UAE’s Sharjah, Saudi Arabia's Al Taawoun and Persepolis FC of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the continental competition.
