RECEDING Waves emerged as winner in the Ain Khaled Cup for three-year-old thoroughbreds rated 95 and below at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club last week.
The Sheail bin Khalifa Al Kuwari-owned colt had made three unsuccessful attempts over as many different distances since reaching Qatar, but he was in his element last week.
Jockey Tadgh O’Shea was at the helm of Receding Waves and while hitting the home stretch, he moved past half the field for victory.
Binzart came in second while Zuhair Mohsen-trained Bluebeard, owned by Al Murqab Stud, rounded up the top three.
Meanwhile, a refreshed Molheb Al Naif was too hot to handle for his rivals in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap for four-year-olds rated 60 to 90.
Yousef Bentahar’s ward did not disappoint as he maintained his unbeaten start to his career with a second win.
It looked at one stage that Molheb Al Naif would throw away his lead by going wide at the final bend and make things really difficult for jockey Marvin Suerland. But he got the horse under control and raced to a three-length victory. DSP
