Doha: Qatar’s Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse entered the pre-quarterfinal of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday.
The Qatari duo defeated Mariusz Prudel and Kacper Kujawiak of Poland 21-19, 25-23.
They will take on the winners of the match between Austrians Clemens Doppler Alexander Horst and Casey Patterson and Theodore Brunner of the US.
Pereira and Younousse, ranked 23rd in the world, were trailing for the most part of the first set, but they started to come back at 17-15 and won it comfortably.
The Polish pair were neck and neck in the second set as well but could not stop the Qataris, who finished fifth in the 2015 edition of the competition in the Netherlands, from winning it.
