Qatari boxers fail to shine at World Military Games

DOHA: Qatari boxers had a disappointing outing at the 7th World Military Games, which concluded in Wuhan (China) on Sunday.

Huzam Nabah, bronze medalist at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, lost his bout 3-0 against his Indian opponent in the 75kg middleweight category.

“It was a tough tournament which featured 280 boxers from 55 nations,” said Huzam.

Thulasi Tharumalingam lost in the 69 kg welterweight while Abdul Latif couldn’t put up a fight in 60k (featherweight)

Mohammad Qambar also his fight against Mongolian opponent in the light heavyweight (81kg).

Russia, with three golds, one silver and four bronzes, were the most successful men’s team.

A total of 7,991 athletes from 109 countries competed in 32 sports, pocketing no less than 1,021 medals in the 10-day competition which started on October 18.  

China topped the medals tally with 133 gold, 64 silver, and 42 bronze. They were followed by Russia (161 medals) and Brazil (88) while France (57) and Poland (60).
