Doha: Qatar lost to Kuwait 1-2 in their third match in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III tournament in Hanoi, Vietnam on Wednesday.
It was the first defeat for Qatar, who had registered victories against Syria (3-0) and Jordan (2-1) earlier in the tournament.
Qatar, comprising Mubarak Shannan Zayid, Mousa Shanan Zayed, Jabor Al-Mutawa and Issa Shanan Al Harrasi, are in Group B of the nine-team event which runs until April 7. They will take on Saudi Arabia in their final match on April 6.
Kuwait lead the group with three victories.
Meanwhile in Group A, hosts Vietnam and Malaysia have won their first two matches.
Pacific Oceania and Cambodia are the other teams in the group.
The winners of Pool A will take on the runners-up of Pool B while Pool B winners will play against the runners-up of Pool A and the two winners will progress to the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in 2019.
