FIFA 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar are reportedly eyeing La Liga side Sevilla’s manager Jorge Sampaoli as their new national coach.
There are reports that the Argentinian had advanced negotiations with the Qatar Football Association (QFA) in recent times.
Qatar, who have only slim chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, are determined to build a strong team in time for the 2022 World Cup and also try and qualify for the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo.
It is reported Sampaoli’s coaching team would consist of 14 members and that he also wanted former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who is currently playing with Qatar’s Al Sadd, as an external member.
It is believed that Sampaoli has made clear to the QFA the financial part of the negotiations, with special bonus for qualifying for the Olympics and also progressing into the second round of 2022 World Cup.
