Doha: The Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation (QCTF) organised a test event for men and women at the Al Thakira Youth Center last Friday as the new season begins on October 13.
This time, the QCTF included triathlon (swimming, cycling and running), mountain and criterum races in their calendar.
A criterium, or crit, is a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit, the length of each lap or circuit ranging from about 500M to 1000M.
The test event, which featured 115 cyclists for 61kms (two laps) race, had 10 stages.
David Nicholas won the men’s title with a time of 1h35:06 followed by Qatari national team rider Ahmed El Bourdainy and Mohammed Farhan Al Farizi.
“QCTF Board of Directors discussed the agenda of new season where fans will get to see a number of cycling and triathlon events including road race and mountain bike events,” said QCTF General Secretary Jamal Al Kuwari. “We thank Royal Air Maroc for sponsoring the inaugural league last season. It shows the depth of our relationship.”
