JAKARTA, Indonesia: Qatar defeated Saudi Arabia 28-23 to top Group A in the handball competition at the Asian Games on Wednesday.
Iraq and Japan are the other teams in the group.
Earlier, Qatar, runners-up in the 2015 IHF World Championships, had beaten Iraq 26-20 two days ago while Japan also overcame the west Asian nation 27-24.
Taekwondo: In the men’s competition, Qatar’s Dghbas Ahmed lost to the Philippines’ Francis Aaron Agojo 41-28 in the 63kg Round of 32 while Ali Al Raimi lost to Kazakhstan’s Aitakh Akbar 19-22 in the 80kg Round of 16.
Meanwhile, the Qatar Olympic Committee officials celebrated Eid Al Adha at the Athletes Village on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by QOC Second Vice-President Dr Thani Al Kuwari, QOC Secretary General Jassim Al Buainin besides heads of sport federations, administrators and athletes.
