Doha: Qatar team defeated Championship side Leeds United 2-0 in their first friendly match in England on Wednesday.
Qatar, preparing for their last two World Cup qualifiers — against Syria in Malaysia on August 31 and China in Doha on September 5, took the lead through Ahmed Alaaeldin in the 16th minute of the match played at St George’s Park.
Midfielder Ali Asad doubled the lead in the 21st minute and Qatar managed to hold on to it despite coach Felix Sanchez making plenty of substitutions.
Qatar started the match with Saad Al Sheeb in goal, Murad Naji, Boualem Khoukhi, Ahmed Yasser and Abdelkarim Hassan in defence Ahmed Maqsoud, Pedro, Ali Asad and Ismail Mohammed in midfield and Almoez Ali and Alaaeldin in attack.
But Sanchez also gave opportunities to many other players including Mahdi Ali, Ahmad Al Saadi, Abdul Aziz Hatem, Karim Boudiaf and Akram Afif.
