Doha: Qatar University (QU) retained the University League for the fifth consecutive time by beating Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) with a last-minute goal in the final here on Saturday.
Abdullah Al Majed scored the all-important goal.
Earlier, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU-Q) beat Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) 4-3 in the third-place playoff.
QU received a cash prize of QAR 30,000 while TAMUQ and CMU-Q received 20,000 and 15,000 respectively.
The award ceremony was attended by QFA Sub-Leagues Committee Chairman Hilal Al Mohannadi, Qatar University Student Affairs Vice-President Dr Khalid Al Khanji and Qatar Foundation Director of Community Outreach and Community Development Mohammed Fakhroo.
The University League is a joint collaboration between the QFA and QF and supports both organisations’ desire to encourage young people to play more organized football and lead a more active lifestyle.
