Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), who recently signed a MoU with Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will jointly host the Qatar Universities Basketball Cup (QUBC) for men and women from October 1.
The tournament will feature seven teams in each division. Two games will be played over four nights per week, with the men’s group is scheduled to compete on Sundays and Tuesdays while the women’s teams will play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6.30 pm and 8pm.
The teams will be divided into two groups, playing in a round robin before the qualifying teams enter the knockout cross-over phase.
The winners of the knockout will advance to a best of three semifinals. The top four teams will battle it out for the championship title.
The tie-up will also see the QBF and the University supporting greater involvement from university students, where QBF and HBKU will share resources to promote and facilitate the sport by coaching, hosting and officiating basketball activities. They will also collaborate on the sport’s development and enhance participation of the students.
The QBF will also guide HBKU on the sport’s promotion, organising competitions, and also help in professional training.
The MoU was signed by QBF Secretary Ali Al Malki and HBKU Vice-President of Student Affairs, Maryam Al Mannai.
