Qatar Sports Club could end up spending another season in the Second Division.
The former Qatar League champions were relegated in 2015-16 after finishing 13th, having secured a creditable fourth in the season before that.
However, they have failed to put their foot down in the lower division and are second with 38 points, with just three rounds remaining.
Markhiya look set to win an automatic promotion as Qatargas League champions as they lead the table with 42 points. If Qatar SC finish second, they must win the play-off against Qatar Stars League’s 11th-placed team to get back to the premier division.
