QSL Week 18 | SHORT TAKES

AL SHAHANIYA 0 AL SAILIYA 0

Both Shahaniya and Sailiya created several chances, but failed to convert them as the match ended goalless. Sailiya started well, but it was Shahaniya who enjoyed more possession in the first half. Both goalkeepers came up with some fine saves in the second half as the game turned really intense towards its end. The result saw Sailiya increase their tally to 19 points and Shahaniya to 15.

UMM SALAL 1 EL JAISH 1

El Jaish’s lacklustre run in the new year continued as they settled for a draw with Umm Salal. Hilal Mohammed put Umm Salal ahead in the 35th minute while Adulkader Ilyas equalised in the 61st.

AL SADD 3 AL GHARAFA 0

Young Qatari forward Hamza Sanhaji netted a brace as Sadd blanked an off-colour Gharafa. Captain Xavi Hernandez opened the account in the 46th while Sanhaji, who rejoined the Wolves from Jaish last month following his six-month loan deal, netted in the 66th and 88th.

AL KHOR 0 AL AHLI 1

Ahli, who have showed signs of comeback since making a few signings last month and defeated Al Arabi 4-2 in their previous match, prevailed over Khor. Former Qatar international midfielder Younis Ali scored the all-important goal in the 30th.

AL WAKRAH 1 MUAITHER 3

Ivorian forward Kissito Yessoah, who joined from Ahli last month, netted a brace (55th and 89th) as Muaither convincingly beat Wakrah and steered clear of the bottom place. Mohammed Medath had put Muaither ahead in the ninth while Mbengue Youssoupha equalised in the 17th.

AL RAYYAN 1 AL KHARAITIYAT 0

Champions Rayyan, depleted due to suspensions and injuries, consolidated their third place in the standings with a hard-fought win over Kharaitiyat. Talented midfielder Abdulmajeed Enad scored the lone goal in the 53rd minute.

AL ARABI 0 LEKHWIYA 1

Lekhwiya played virtually a second string against Arabi, yet managed to win, thanks to Nam Tae-Hee’s goal just before half-time. Arabi started well and looked capable of pulling off a shock win, but a red card to defender Youssef Ramadan in the 35th minute upset coach Osvaldo Oliviera’s plans as they surrendered.
