LACK of motivation, mainly owing to poor crowd at the venues, is pointed out as a reason for players losing their focus and cool during league games, but Al Gharafa coach Pedro Caixinha said it could be addressed through right training methodology.
“I believe training methodology is linked with a player’s motivation and team’s collectiveness,” said Caixinha.
“First of all, you need to have concentration and competitiveness. If you’re a true competitor, then you’ll have the desire to succeed. It’s different when you win in front of a huge crowd, but winning is always winning. This is what we try to teach the players at Gharafa from the very beginning. To win and work hard, to make winning a habit,” he said.
Gharafa players refused to train on more occasions than one last month owing to delay in payment of salaries and Caixinha said it was a different problem altogether he had to address.
“There’re many factors influencing the players’ temperament. Can the financial problems be a major reason? Yes, it can be, but I don’t think it has a direct relation with the incidents that happened on the field this season.
“We know how to deal with the players even though it isn’t easy when they’re affected with such problems. It’s, of course, different from what we’ve to do in training and match preparations.
“It’s part of our job to clean up the players’ minds and keep them focused on the game,” said the Portuguese.
