DOHA: Austria’s Albin Ouschan beat USA’s Shane Van Boening 13-6 to clinch the World 9-Ball Pool Championship at the Al Arabi Sports Club’s Indoor Hall here on Thursday.
The winner took home a purse of $40,000 while the runner-up was richer by $20,000 in the World Pool-Billiard Association-sanctioned event.
The final was a race-to-13 alternate-breaks affair.
Earlier, Ouschan, the 2014 runner-up, beat Canada’s Alex Pagulayan 11 – 4 in the semifinal.
Van Boening, a runner up here last year and a four time US Open champion got past Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Yu Hsuan 11-9 in the other last-four encounter.
Both the semifinals were race-to-11 alternate-breaks affairs.
The Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation has been hosting the $200,000 prize-money tournament since 2010.
