NASSER Saleh Al Attiyah will return to the familiar terrain in Jordan before he tests the uncharted waters in Kazakhstan for the next round of FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.
Nasser heads a strong field in the second round of FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) in Jordan from May 4 to 6.
The ace Qatari has won a record 10 times in Jordan and is once again the firm favourite.
Nasser, the 12-time MERC champion, had a shaky start to his title defence as a broken radiator forced him out of the season opener at home in February, with compatriot Rashed Al Naimi taking the honours.
Nasser will be keen to add to his record 63 MERC round wins in an entry field of 12 cars which also includes compatriot Khaled Al Suwaidi, Kuwait’s Mishari Al Matheri and local drivers Khaled Juma and Maruf Abu Samra.
“It’s shaping up to be a lively event,” said George Khoury, the clerk of the course. “We’re looking forward to putting on an occasion that everyone can enjoy, whether competing or watching.
“Nasser will be the man to beat, but Qatar showed that anything can happen in rallying, so there will be plenty of drivers hoping to spring a surprise in Jordan,” he said.
