QATAR’S Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah stormed to a fourth successive stage victory at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge on Tuesday.
With two days remaining in the third of 11-round FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, Nasser and French co-driver Matthieu Baumel, in their Toyota Hilux, hold a commanding 39min, 38sec lead over the UAE’s Shaikh Khalid Al Qassimi and Khaled Al Kendi, who are on board a Peugeot 3008 DKR.
Czech duo of Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek, in their Ford F-150 Evo, are third.
Qatar’s other main competitor Mohamed Issa Abu Issa and his French navigator Xavier Panseri are fourth in their Mini All4 Racing.
Nasser, who won in Abu Dhabi last year, looks set to do an encore.
“The car is working very well. Even if you’ve won in Abu Dhabi before, there’s no advantage. This is desert. It’s always changing. Two days to go, but we’ll drive at the same pace. It’s a good pace,” said Nasser.
Meanwhile, former champion Vladimir Vasilyev of Russia withdrew from the race at the end of second stage with a back injury.
