DOHA: Mohammed Muntari scored the all-important goal as Al Duhail overcame Umm Salal in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League match here at the Al Arabi Stadium on Sunday.
Muntari, who had a headed goal disallowed for offside, found the net in the 65th minute as Duhail finished the week on 17 points while Umm Salal stayed on five.
It was Duhail’s fifth victory and Rui Faria’s boys also extended their unbeaten run, having drawn their other two games.
"We achieved a difficult victory. We are in a better place but our focus will be on the upcoming matches," said Duhail coach Faria.
Duhail attacked from the start, with Paolo Edmilson leading the charge. His long-ranger hit the right upright before Umm Salal goalkeeper Yazan Naim thwarted the Brazilian.
At the other end, Umm Salal’s Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo, coming from an injury layoff, skied the ball from close on 30 minutes while Nasser Al Nasr had his shot saved by Duhail goalkeeper Amine Lecomte.
