DOHA: Ireland’s Bernard McCullagh won the Open Men event at the Qatari Diar Triathlon last Friday while Isora Sosa Caballero (ESP) claimed the women's title.
The one-day event, which featured a total of 250 participants including kids, was organised by Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation (QCTF) with support from Qatar Olympic Committee.
McCullagh, who now top the Series standings, clocked 54 minutes 11 seconds while Spain’s Aday Alvarez and Morocco’s Mouhcine Rhaili finished second and third respectively.
Caballero maintained her winning streak, picking up her fourth win in as many races in 1h3m2s. She was followed by Daniela Sposi (GBR) and Gerda Maria Dumitru (ROM).
“Lusail City proved to be one of the best venues for triathlon in Qatar, with prospects of future cooperation between Qatari Diar and Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation. We are extremely happy to have found a common interest with the fellow Qatari Diar organisation and are looking forward to new events, whether triathlon or cycling,” said QCTF Board Member Thani Al Zarra.
In the veteran category, Enzo Fascinato (ARG) won the men’s title followed by Manuel Miceli (ITA) and Jody Sanderson (CAN). Hilda Allin (RSA) was the fastest among women ahead of Andrea Stadler (ECU) and Annemarie Kilshaw (AUS).
