THE Qatar Olympic Committee on Tuesday merged the national federations of rugby, cricket and hockey, and brought them under a single committee.
“The names of new office-bearers haven’t been announced yet,” hockey official Mohammed Abdul Nasar told Doha Stadium Plus.
Tennis, squash and badminton too have been put under a single body, with Nasser Ghanem Al Kholaifi set to head it.
Meanwhile, the governing bodies of fencing as well as weightlifting and bodybuilding were merged to form the Qatar Fencing and Weightlifting Federation, with Mohammed Yousef Al Mana as its new head. Khalid Al Hamadi will be its new general secretary, and Fahad Abdullah Al Mulla and Mohammad Abdullah Al Sahli the Board members.
The Qatar Boxing Federation (QBF) and Qatar Wrestling Federation were also made into one and renamed as the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation. Present QBF President Yousuf Ali Al Kazimi has been elected as its head while other office-bearers will be named on December 27.
Karate, judo and taekwondo will also be managed by a new body.
