CHAMPIONS Al Arabi lost to arch-rivals Al Rayyan in a five-set thriller, their second straight reversal in the Qatar League.
Arabi, whose eight-match winning streak was ended by Police in the previous week, lost to Rayyan 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 10-15.
Arabi had only themselves to blame after frittering away a 2-1 lead.
After losing the first set, Arabi won the next two and it looked as though they would bounce right back to winning ways.
But in the fourth set, they took the foot off the pedal and the Lions came firing on all cylinders, drawing level and then holding their nerves in the decider.
Rayyan’s Cuban pro Cala Yosleydar gelled well with local player Mubarak Dahi Waleed. They were well supported by Bilal Abounabout and Braima Fawi.
For Arabi, Ibrahim Saeed, Miguel Dalmau and Leandro Visotto did well.
In other action, El Jaish trounced Al Wakrah 25-18, 25-8, 25-20 and Al Ahli defeated Al Khor 11-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.
