Doha: Newly signed Qatar international Boualem Khoukhi joined Al Sadd at their pre-season camp in Bad Haring, Austria, on Wednesday.
The Emir’s Cup champions signed the 26-year-old from Al Arabi in May on a two-year deal.
“I’m very happy to join Sadd. It’s an honour for me. I hope I can repay the trust the club management has shown in me,” said Khoukhi, who shot into the limelight in the 2014 West Asian Championship, top scoring with six goals.
When Djamel Belmadi replaced Fahad Thani as national coach in that same year, he selected Khoukhi for the 2014 Gulf Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which Qatar triumphed.
His addition to the Sadd squad will definitely be a big boost in the new season as he can play as a forward, midfielder and defender.
The club will also be hoping to regain the Qatar Stars League after they won for the last time under Moroccan Housseine Amouta in 2012-13.
Meanwhile, Sadd’s practice game against Turkish club Goztepe was abandoned due to unfit ground conditions.
