HOLDERS El Jaish survived a scare before beating Al Sadd 27-25 in a thriller as the Qatar League resumed after a two-month break at the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) Hall last week.
The winners trailed 13-14 at the halfway mark.
The league, which started on September 28, was stopped exactly a month later owing to the national team’s preparations for World Championships in France, where they lost in the quarterfinal.
In between, the low-profile Association Cup was held, with El Quiyada emerging as champions.
It was back to top action at the QHA Hall as Jaish had to use all their resources to maintain their winning streak, which has now been extended to five games.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan edged Al Wakrah 23-22 in another close encounter.
In other action, Quiyada lost to Al Gharafa 21-24 while Lekhwiya, another title contender, beat Al Ahli 26-21.
Arabi beat Al Khor 24-17 while Al Shamal got the better of Qatar SC 30-26.
