LEKHWIYA coach Djamel Belmadi, who lauded his players following their impressive victory over Al Kharaitiyat, said the title was expected to go down to the wire and it was important for them not to make mistakes.
“We want to stay on top till the end, but it’s important we remained focused because the team that commits errors would pay a heavy price,” said Belmadi.
The Algerian said the win against Kharaitiyat was possible due to their high level of concentration.
“Kharaityat were coming from three successive victories and we’re happy to have beaten them. We were a bit tired after playing in the AFC Champions League, but we respected our opponents and concentrated well,” said Belmadi.
“We controlled the match and took an early lead, but we were a bit worried because we knew one goal didn’t necessarily guarantee win against a team like Kharaitiyat. After we doubled the lead early in the second half, things became easier. We became calm after scoring the third on the hour mark,” he added.
Asked whether the month-long break in the league would have a negative impact on Lekhwiya’s campaign, Belmadi said, “We’ve a lot of internationals in our ranks, so I don’t find any reason to worry.”
