‘It’ll be like a home World Cup for us’

BAHRAIN Football Association President Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa congratulated Qatar on the 2022-day countdown to the World Cup.

In an interview with www.sc.qa, Shaikh Ali said his country would spare no efforts in making the Qatar tournament a big success and added that the Gulf region had become instrumental in the overall success of football.

How do you look at Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup?

It’s a matter of enormous pride for us in Bahrain as it’s for Qatar. It’ll bear great testimony to the region’s strong international competitiveness and outstanding capabilities of staging all types of mega events. The first-ever tournament in the Middle East will feel for us, in the Arab and GCC countries, like a home World Cup, and we’ll spare no effort to ensure its success.

About the region hosting the Asian Cup (2019, UAE) and World Cup in a span of four years...

We strive for the betterment of football, particularly in Asia. We still’ve a lot of work to do and we’ll join hands with all football stakeholders around the world to that end.
