Doha: The four-day 22nd Asian Athletics Championship concluded in Bhubaneswar, India, on Sunday, with the Asian Athletics Association President Dahlan Al Hamad thanked the Indian Government for their excellent support in hosting the multi-discipline event.
“Bhubaneswar, you’ve raised the bar. It was a near-flawless organisation. I thank the Government of India, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and IT Chandra Sarathi Behara for their support,” said the Qatari during his speech at the closing ceremony.
At the end of the event, the Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, who also heads the Qatar Athletics Federation, received the flag of the 23rd Asian Championship which will be held in Doha in 2019 from Athletics Federation of India President Adille Sumariwalla.
“India and Qatar share a common passion. We love sports. From the moment we reached India, we knew we’ve landed at the right place where people are passionate about all sports,” added Al Hamad.
