SOUTH Korean midfielder Nam Tae-Hee guided newly-crowned Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Lekhwiya to a hard-fought 2-1 win against Iran’s Esteghlal Kouzestan in a Group B match of AFC Champions League at the Lekhwiya Stadium last Monday.
The win helped Lekhwiya lead the group with eight points from four matches while Kouzestan dropped to second with seven.
Nam helped his side bounce back with an equaliser in the 35th minute after Cameroonian Aloys Nong had put the visitors ahead in the ninth. The nippy attacking midfielder, who scored the winner against Al Ahli last week to help the Cops regain the QSL shield, set up Almoez Ali for the second in the 43rd.
“I’m happy to contribute to the team’s victory. It was a good result. We look forward to qualifying for the knockout stage,” Nam told Doha Stadium Plus.
Saudi Arabia’s Al Fateh and UAE’s Al Jazira are third and fourth respectively.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan, Qatar’s second team in the continental competition, played out a goalless draw with Iran’s Persepolis in Teheran in Group D.
The hosts had a golden chance to take the lead, but striker Mehdi Taremi spurned a penalty on the stroke of half-time when he chipped his shot over the bar following a foul by Rayyan left-back Mosaab Kheder.
Saudi giants Al Hilal, who defeated UAE’s Al Wahda, top the group with eight points, followed by Rayyan with seven.
Persepolis are third (five) while Wahda are at the bottom with one point.
