Doha, Qatar: Al Rayyan continued from when they left off at the international break and thrashed Qatar SC 5-0 to provisionally go top of the Qatar Stars League table on Saturday.
In the match played at the Al Gharafa Stadium, Rodrigo Tabata led from the front, as he has always done, and came up with two beautiful goals and two assists.
Ahmed Alaaeldin, Yacine Brahimi and Franck Kom scored the other goals for Rayyan who now have 15 points.
After Frank Kom rattled the crossbar in the 4th minute with a shot that bounced on the goalline and which linesman thought had crossed it before VAR rectified the mistake, Rayyan took the lead in the 8th minute.
Tabata's inswinging corner had the dip and pace to trouble Qatar SC defence and Alaaeldin took the opportunity to place the ball in the bottom corner.
Tabata have for long been Rayyan's trump card he showed exactly why with a delightful finish in the 16th minute.
Yacine Brahimi's cross from the left was on to the path of Tabata and the former Qatar captain met the ball with a side-footed volley that left Jassim Adel rooted.
Tabata turned the provider in the 28th when his corner from the right was met with a thumping header by Franck Kom as Rayyan threatened to run away with the game.
The Lions did exactly that as Brahimi made it 4-0 in the 36th minute, flicking the ball home with the outside of his right boot after being found by a through ball from Ahmed Maksoud.
Qatar SC had a couple of chances, but they were thoroughly outplayed in the first half.
Wizam Rizik-coached Qatar SC tried to be more purposeful at the start of the second half, before Tabata scored his second and Rayyan's fifth with a splendid freekick to squeeze out whatever life left in them.
With Duhail and al Arabi playing only on Sunday and Al Sadd not involved this week, Rayyan moved to the top of the table with 15 points.
Though Rayyan's stay at the top looks destined to be a shot one this time, Deigo Aguirre would be happy that they have got a fine momentum going their way.
Rayyan have now won three games in a row including a 4-2 victory against reigning champions Al Sadd and the fans would be hoping that they continue with their show.
In Saturday's other matches Al Sailiya defeated Al Wakrah 3-1 while Al Ahli and Al Shahania shared four goals and two points.
