FRENCH coach Jean Fernandez, who parted ways with Qatar Stars League (QSL) club Al Khor last week, is strongly linked to the vacant post at rivals Al Gharafa.
Fernandez, a former Olympique Marseille and Montpellier coach, had helped Khor finish 11th in the recently-concluded QSL and guided them to the quarterfinal of Emir’s Cup.
Khor were keen on retaining the 62-year-old, but he was firm in his decision to leave.
Fernandez had represented Marseille and many other clubs during his playing days.
Gharafa, managed by caretaker Habib Sadeq after Pedro Caixinha left for Scottish club Rangers in March, want Fernandez at their helm as they look to build on their fifth-place finish in the league.
They also believe his rich experience will come in handy when they try to qualify for next year’s AFC Champions League through play-off.
Khor have begun their search for a new coach as well as replacements for foreign players Wellinton Souza, Mouhcine Iajour and Sultan Al Enezi, who all announced their decision to leave the club.
