Doha: The Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani took part in a walking exercise in the front yard of Emiri Diwan to celebrate the National Sport Day on Tuesday.
The Father Emir also witnessed a show of camels and pure Arabian horses as multiple sports activities marked the event’s seventh edition.
According to the Emiri decree No. 80 of 2011, the second Tuesday of February is celebrated as the National Sports Day.
Meanwhile, the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani took part in the programme by cycling at the Corniche area.
The Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser also participated in activities at Oxygen Park.
The NSD is an unprecedented and unique initiative that aims to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Aspire Zone and Katara Cultural Village were among the most popular destinations as most of the activities were held at these two pockets which were attended by sports enthusiasts from all age groups.
“The celebrations this year lived up to expectations, thanks to the collective experience and expertise of the Aspire Zone Foundation, Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics," said AZF CEO Mohammad Khalifa Al Suwaidi.
