Doha: The Seventh Al Kass U17 International Cup, which started here on Sunday, is an opportunity for the fans to watch the potential superstars of the future.
No wonder they turned in huge numbers at the Aspire Academy grounds to watch their favourite clubs in action which included defending champions Real Madrid, AC Milan, Fenerbache among others.
“I’ve been attending the tournament with my kids for the past few years. The event gives Qatar an international exposure as well as giving the local players the chance to play against the best,” said Radhoune ben Hamadou.
Aspire Academy, which drew 1-1 with Guangzhou on Monday, add local flavour to the competition, which also feature Aspire Football Dreams, Esperance de Tunis, Kashiwa Reysol, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Moroccan side Wydad AC.
The tournament, rated as one of the top youth tournaments, has become hugely popular both with fans and clubs since it was launched six winters ago, with most teams wanting to participate every year.
“I’ve attended all the previous editions. This time, I created the fans page on a social media channel. I will be happy if they win the title,” said Esperance de Tunis fan Mohamed Oussama Korbi.
