FRANCE’S Antoine Escoffier stunned Germany’s top seed Daniel Altmaier 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 to clinch the boys’ singles title of Qatar F2 Futures tournament at the hard courts of Khalifa International Complex last week.
Altmaier, who had won the recent Qatar F1 Futures tournament, was eyeing a double, but unseeded Escoffier had other ideas.
It was the 25-year-old’s fifth Futures title and first since March, 2016.
Swedish pair of Markus Eriksson and Milos Sekulic won the doubles.
Eriksson and Sekulic had lost to Chile’s Jorge Montero and the Netherlands’ Sem Verbeek in the final of Qatar F1 Futures tournament.
But this time, they were not to be denied as they beat Altmaier and his Austrian partner Lucas Miedler 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 in the final, decided on super tie-breakers.
Meanwhile, the Qatar F3 Futures tournament began at the same venue last Monday.
