Doha: Defending champions Fuchse Berlin of Germany will be aiming for their third consecutive IHF Super Globe title when they take on Pan American champions Esporte Clube de Pinheiros at the Al Duhail Handball Stadium on Friday.
The tournament, which is played on a knockout basis, is being held here for the eighth straight time.
Hosts Al Sadd wrap up day one of competition against six-time Oceania champions Sydney Uni Handball Club.
They will be hoping to replicate their past form in the competition, which they won in 2002 and came second twice in 2010 and 2014, and third in 2012.
The semifinals will be held on Saturday followed by the final on Monday.
