Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez, who met the players of the Catalan side in Doha, said the team was looking in good shape.
“Barca are looking great,” Xavi, who plays for Qatar Stars League side Al Sadd, told Barca TV. “They might’ve dropped some league points at the Camp Nou unexpectedly. But it’s only six-point gap with Real Madrid and they can recover them. They’ve got their game back and that sets up things nicely for the rest of the season.”
On the Champions League last-16 draw, the midfielder said, “PSG will be a difficult opponent, but Barca are always favourites to win everything. They’ll get better as the season progresses. (Coach) Luis Enrique works the Barca style perfectly and that’ll bring success.”
As for the extension of Lionel Messi’s contract, Xavi said, “Let’s hope he stays for many more years because we’re so lucky to have the best player in the world with us.”
Asked how things were going for him with Sadd, the 36-year-old said, “I’m keeping myself fit, and enjoying competition and training as much as ever.”
