Tampere, Finland: Eight Aspire Academy student-athletes dished out eye-catching performances at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships at Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland.
There were strong shows from student-athletes Owaab Barrow and Jaber Hilal Al Mamari (110m hurdles and 4x100m relay races) while graduates Nuh Anuh (high jump), Soud Abdulaziz Al Hudmaidi and Bassem Hemeida (400m hurdles and 4x100m relay), Moaaz Mohamed Ibrahim (discus throw), Khalil Bedoui (hammer throw) and Abdulaziz Mohammed Salem (200m and 400m races), who trains with the Qatar Athletics Federation programme, also shone.
Bassem Hemeida reached the final of 400m hurdles to be held on Friday with a sparkling performance while Al Humaidi and student-athlete Owaab Barrow shone in 110m hurdles and reached the semifinals.
In the preliminary round of the men’s hammer throw, Aspire’s graduate Khalil Bedoui achieved a distance of 63.67m to finish 25th.
Four athletes — Soud Abdulaziz Al Hudmaidi, Bassem Hemeida, Moaaz Mohamed and Khalil Bedoui graduate only last month and missed the ceremony to prepare for the tournament.
