Doha: Qatar put up a dominating show, but had to be content with a 1-0 victory against China in an international friendly at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha on Friday.
Al Moez Ali scored in the 24th minute of the match in which the Qatari defence was never really tested.
Almoez had missed a glorious chance in the 15th minute, crashing the ball on to the bar from close range with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he made no mistake when presented with the opportunity again a few minutes later.
Al Sadd's Pedro Miguel started the move on the right and exchanged passes with his club-mate Hassan Al Haydous on the right before picking out Almoez in the centre with an intelligent pass behind the Chinese defence and the Duhail striker effortlessly swept the ball home from close range.
Qatar enjoyed the majority of possession and created plenty of chances, with Akram Afif and Almoez constantly troubling the Chinese defence with their pace and trickery. But poor finishing, particularly from Almoez, who could easily have had a hat-trick, stopped them from running away with the game. Abdulaziz Hatem also missed a gilt-edged chance, hitting the upright with a deflected shot, with Chinese goalkeeper Yan Junling totally beaten.
Qatar, preparing or the Asian Cup to be held in the UAE in January, will take on Palestine at the same venue on September 11.
