Doha: Al Sadd striker Baghdad Bounedjah and their boss Jesualdo Ferreira were named as the QNB Stars League’s best player and coach respectively for the month of August 2018.
Bounedjah scored 11 goals from four matches during the term, playing a crucial role for the side and topping the scorers’ chart. The Algerian netted a hat-trick in the Wolves’ 6-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat in the opening week.
He then contributed seven goals in their 10-1 win over Al Arabi.
Bounedjah also struck a brace against Iran’s Esteghlal in their 3-1 victory in the AFC Champions League quarterfinal first-leg tie at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Sadd have been impressive throughout under Ferreira, playing four games in the 2018-19 season QNB Stars League and winning three of them and drawing 1-1 with Al Gharafa.
The Wolves’ victories were against Al Kharaitiyat (6-0), Al Arabi (10-1) and Al Shahania (4-0).
In the process, Sadd kept their lead on top of the standings with 10 points, ahead of Al Duhail on goal difference.
Ferreira’s men scored 21 goals while conceding just two, with 35 shots on target.
