Doha: Qatar’s Al Rayyan lost to Iranian side Sanaye Giti Pasand in the semifinals of the AFC Futsal Club Championship at Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Friday.
Giti Pasand lead 3-2 in the first half.
The Iranians were off to a blazing start and lead 2-0 after just five minutes through goals from Ahmad Esmaeilpour (3rd minute) and Abolghasem Orouji.
But Rayyan, given a glimmer of hope after Giti Pasand’s Vitor Hugo Da Silva was sent off for a foul, came back strongly thanks to a brace from Flavio Barreto Arantes, who scored in the 15th and 18th minute.
Rayyan’s joy was short-lived as Esmaeilpour handed the advantage right back to Giti Pasand with a stunning long-ranger.
Giti Pasand were then awarded an unobstructed free-kick after Al Rayyan committed six accumulative fouls, and Ali Asghar promptly converted it in the dying moments of the match.
Giti Pasand will take on Bluewave Chonburi in the final on Sunday after the Thai side rode on Jirawat Sornwichian’s hat-trick to thrash home favourites Thai Son Nam 6-0 in the other semifinal.
