Doha: Qatar U23 player Al Moez Ali was awarded the '2017 Best Qatari Player' here on Wednesday following a recent poll conducted by the Estad Al Doha.
The Al Duhail striker was the unanimous choice from a list which also included goalkeeper Saad Al Dosari, Al Rayyan forward Sebastian Soria, midfielder Karim Boudiaf and Al Sadd defender Pedro Miguel.
The ceremony was attended by Aspire Zone CEO Mohammad Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Estad Al Doha Editor-in-Chief Majed Al Khelaifi, Estad Al Doha Executive Manager Ahmed Al Ansari, Al Duhail coach Djamel Belmadi and others.
Al Moez was a favourite choice for the coaches, journalists and experts in the poll, which fetched him 455 points.
He was followed by Al Dosari (367), Boudiaf (311), Soria (186) and Pedro (184).
Former Sadd and Qatar international Khalfan Ibrahim was the first recipient of the award, which was started in 2013.
"Al Moez deserved to win the award. He's every coach's dream for his diligence and game sense. He has a perfect attitude and mentality. I hope he wins more such awards with club and national teams," said Belmadi. "My job is to remind him to focus on the game because a player can be a star today, but next season he may not even be in the limelight."
Hassan Al Haidous bagged the two consecutive honours in 2014 and 2015 while Al Ahli forward Meshal Abdullah won the fourth one in 2016.
"It's an honour to be selected by Estad Al Doha as the best Qatari player of the year. I'll try to improve as a player and help my club and country win more titles," said the 21-year-old.
