QATAR’S Hamad Al Marri clinched double trap gold at the 13th Arab Championships in Kuwait last week.
He then combined with Masoud Al Athba and Rashid Al Athba to win bronze in the team competition.
Al Marri, who qualified for the semifinal with a relatively-low score, lifted his performance when it mattered the most in the nick of time, hitting 28 out of 30 to set up a final with local boy Saal Al Mutairi.
In the final, Al Marri got only 26 points, but it was enough for him to beat Al Mutairi.
“This medal is the result of the hard work I’ve put in the season. I’ve always strived hard to be among the top and encouraging results like this will only help me succeed in the upcoming tournaments,” said Al Marri.
The UAE’s Khalid Al Kaabi clinched bronze with an exciting 28-27 victory over Kuwait’s Ahmad Al Afasi.
The double trap team gold medal went to the UAE, who garnered 374 points, 11 more than second-placed Kuwait.
Qatari trio of Al Marri, Masoud and Rashid collected 361.
